Our mission is to provide intervention and advocacy for children who are victims of, or witnesses to, crime.
Since 1994, Kids’ FIRST, Lane County’s child abuse intervention center, provides a central location for a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach to child abuse investigations, which eliminates the need for a child to be repeatedly interviewed about abuse by each individual agency. This approach is the national standard and best practice to reduce trauma for children who have been victims of, or witnesses to, crime.
Serving nearly 700 children and teens every year, Kids’ FIRST offers a warm, non-threatening environment where specially trained interviewers conduct video-recorded interviews to document the children’s statements, which can be used as evidence about their experiences. The Center also provides forensic medical exams for child abuse victims, grand jury for child abuse cases, Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team Case Review, Child Fatality Review Team, and Parent Education and Support Group.
