Susan Lopez became Executive Director for Kids’ FIRST in August 2014 and serves as the chair of the Lane County Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Team and a member of the Oregon Network of Child Abuse Intervention Centers. Susan previously served nine years with the Department of Human Services Child Welfare program. She began her DHS career as a bilingual protective service worker, investigating allegations of child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect.
Susan participated in Kids’ FIRST Domestic Violence Witness Project as a forensic interviewer from 2005 to 2009. As a Child Welfare Manager she directly supervised numerous programs within DHS Child Welfare, including Social Service Assistants, Academy, and Child Protective Services programs. In addition, Susan worked as the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) coordinator at DHS Central Office, leading the DHS CIRT process and Child Welfare’s Trauma Response Team. She was also the grant administrator for several federal grants, including the Children’s Justice Act (CJA) and Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA).
Before her career in child welfare, Susan was a bilingual social worker with Centro LatinoAmericano, where she assisted monolingual Spanish-speaking families as they navigated the medical system through the Programa de Accesso Medico. Susan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Services from the University of Oregon, College of Education.
